Window Cleaning Robot Pre-Cleaning Checklist: Prepare the Glass, Pads, Power, and Safety Rope

Before starting a window cleaning robot, inspect the glass, fit suitable clean pads, check the power connection, secure the safety rope where required, and plan how you will retrieve the robot. This short check can prevent avoidable stops, poor pad contact, dragged debris, cable tension, and unsafe setup.

Use the instructions for your exact model when they differ from this general checklist. Window cleaning robots vary in pad preparation, spray controls, placement rules, glass limits, and safety equipment.

1. Inspect the glass and the area around it

Look across the full cleaning surface before you place the robot. Check for cracks, loose pieces, damaged edges, raised hardware, deep seals, handles, stickers, and other obstacles that could interrupt movement or pad contact. Do not use the robot on a surface that the model manual excludes.

Also inspect the floor, furniture, balcony area, and people below or near the window. Keep the working area clear. If the robot will operate on elevated or exterior-facing glass, plan the safety setup before bringing it to the pane.

Very dirty windows need extra judgment. Loose grit or thick residue can load the pads and move abrasive dirt across the surface. The guide on cleaning very dirty windows explains when preparation may be needed before a robot pass.

2. Check the pads before every cleaning cycle

Use pads that match the exact robot model and attach them as the manual shows. A pad should sit flat without folded edges, trapped debris, or loose sections that could disturb contact.

Inspect the pad surface under good light. Replace or clean it when it carries grit, heavy residue, hardened marks, or worn areas. Do not assume that a pad left on the robot after the previous cycle is ready for another window.

Follow the model instructions for pad moisture. Some cleaning tasks may call for a different starting condition than others. Adding too much liquid without checking the manual can reduce control over moisture and spread residue.

3. Prepare the water or spray system only as instructed

If your model uses a water tank or spray system, confirm that the correct tank is fitted and closed. Check visible spray outlets for residue without inserting tools or taking apart components unless the manual instructs you to do so.

Use only water or cleaning solution permitted for the model. Do not infer a fill level, dilution ratio, or cleaning chemical from another robot. A large amount of liquid does not replace clean pads, and extra moisture does not ensure a cleaner pane.

4. Plan the power-cable route

Most window cleaning robots need their normal power connection throughout the cleaning cycle. Confirm that the plug, adapter, connector, and cable are seated as the manual requires. Route the cable so it does not pull against the robot, catch on a handle, or cross a sharp edge.

Do not treat emergency backup protection as cordless operating time. On Frewico models, UPS power-off protection is a temporary backup layer during an unexpected power interruption. Respond to a power loss and retrieve the robot according to the manual rather than continuing the cleaning cycle.

5. Secure the safety rope before elevated use

Attach the supplied safety rope as instructed and secure its other end to a fixed, immovable indoor anchor before a fall could create a hazard. Check the rope, connection point, and anchor for visible damage or looseness. Arrange the rope so it can follow the robot without snagging on nearby hardware.

The Frewico W5600X uses a 4.5 m / approximately 14.8 ft safety rope. This physical layer does not replace stable power, suitable glass, correct placement, supervision, or the model manual. For more context, read why the safety rope still matters.

6. Check weather and surface conditions

Do not place the robot on wet exterior glass during rain or use it in strong wind, storms, or other conditions excluded by the manual. Water on the pane, grease, heavy dust, damaged glass, textured surfaces, and unsuitable coatings can affect movement and contact.

If the surface condition is uncertain, stop and verify it before use. Similar-looking windows can have different coatings, joints, edge details, or installation conditions.

7. Choose the starting point and retrieval plan

Select a starting position allowed by the manual. Make sure you can reach the robot before and after cleaning without leaning into an unsafe position. Check that curtains, blinds, handles, cables, and nearby objects will not interfere with placement or retrieval.

For elevated windows, review the detailed guide to cleaning outside windows from inside before deciding whether the setup is suitable.

8. Stay present during startup

Keep the robot supervised. Watch the first movements and spray behavior rather than walking away as soon as it starts. Stop the cycle if the robot does not sit correctly, the cable or rope catches, the pad shifts, or the movement looks inconsistent with the manual.

The troubleshooting guide on slipping, streaking, and missed corners explains how surface condition, pads, moisture, shape, and setup can affect results.

Quick pre-cleaning check

Check What to confirm Stop and review when
Glass Surface is intact and allowed by the model manual Cracks, loose edges, heavy texture, raised obstacles, or an excluded coating are present
Pads Correct pads are clean, flat, and securely fitted Grit, hardened residue, wear, folds, or loose edges are visible
Spray system Tank and outlets are prepared as instructed A tank is loose, an outlet is obstructed, or the liquid is not approved
Power Plug, adapter, connectors, and cable route are secure A connector is loose or the cable can pull, snag, or cross a sharp edge
Safety rope Rope and indoor anchor are secure where required The rope, attachment, or anchor appears damaged or loose
Conditions Glass and weather fit the manual's limits Rain, strong wind, storms, unsuitable moisture, or uncertain surface conditions are present
Retrieval You can place and retrieve the robot from a stable position Retrieval would require unsafe reaching or crossing an obstacle
Supervision Someone can watch the cleaning cycle The robot would run unattended

Keep the checklist focused on preparation

This checklist covers the setup before each cleaning cycle. It does not replace the model manual or solve every cleaning problem. Heavy dirt may need separate preparation, and persistent movement or finish problems need their own diagnosis.

Window Cleaning Robot: Frequently Asked Questions

What suction figure should I compare?

Compare figures with the same measurement type and conditions. The Frewico W5600X uses a high-speed vacuum fan rated at up to 8500Pa maximum fan suction, with approximately 5600Pa rated working suction during normal glass-cleaning operation. Suction alone does not establish safety or cleaning results.

Can W5600X clean frameless glass or glass doors?

W5600X has edge detection for suitable frameless-glass use cases. Suitable glass doors may also be supported when all manual conditions are met. Check flatness, dimensions, condition, coatings, safe access, tethering, and power before use.

What protection is needed for high windows?

Keep W5600X connected to power, secure its 4.5 m / approximately 14.8 ft safety rope as instructed, and supervise operation. UPS offers temporary support after accidental power interruption, not normal cordless runtime. Maintain a safe retrieval plan and follow the manual.

Does a square robot clean every corner?

The square body is intended to improve access near 90-degree corners. Pads, frame depth, clearance, moisture, and dirt affect the result; some areas may still need hand finishing. Route planning is model-specific, not determined by body shape alone.

Can I use it on materials other than glass?

Do not infer compatibility with tile, marble, metal, or other materials from suction alone. Use only the surfaces permitted by the instructions for your exact model. Contact Frewico support when compatibility is uncertain.

How do spray and pads work together?

W5600X uses dual ultrasonic spray with a quad-nozzle arrangement and two 50 ml tanks, giving 100 ml total capacity. Follow the manual's liquid and pad-preparation instructions. Clean pads and controlled moisture help routine wiping; heavy deposits may need separate treatment.
