Window Cleaning Robot First-Use Checklist: What to Verify Before Putting It on Glass
Before using a window cleaning robot for the first time, confirm the exact model, read its manual, identify every supplied part, inspect the robot and power equipment, check the glass, fit the correct pads, prepare tanks only as instructed, secure the safety rope, and plan placement and retrieval. Do not put the robot on glass while a part, instruction, surface, or safety step remains unclear.
This first-use process is longer than a routine pre-cleaning check. Once you know the product and setup, use the shorter pre-cleaning checklist before later cycles.

Confirm the exact model
Match the model name on the robot, packaging, manual, order record, and product page. Similar-looking robots may use different pads, tanks, sensors, controls, adapters, or safety equipment.
Do not copy specifications or setup steps from another model. If the manual or package label does not match the robot, stop and contact the seller.
Read the manual before connecting power
Find the sections for safety warnings, glass requirements, pad installation, tanks and spray, power connection, safety-rope attachment, controls, placement, cleaning modes, removal, and maintenance.
Keep the manual available during setup. Do not rely on a marketplace video or generic tutorial when it conflicts with the exact-model instructions.
Reconcile the package contents
Lay out the robot, adapter, power cable, safety rope and hardware, pads, remote, filling accessories, and any other listed components. Compare what you received with the package list for that sales version.
Do not invent a quantity when the current documentation does not confirm it. Contact the seller when a listed part is missing, damaged, or different from the manual.
Inspect the robot and accessories
Check the housing, controls, sensors, driving parts, connectors, cable, adapter, rope, carabiner, pads, reservoirs, and plugs for visible damage or contamination.
Do not plug in equipment with exposed conductors, cracked housings, loose connectors, heat damage, moisture, or damaged safety hardware. The power cable and safety-rope inspection guide provides a focused visual checklist.
Check whether the glass is suitable
Inspect the full pane for cracks, loose edges, heavy texture, grease, coatings, moisture, raised hardware, seams, stickers, handles, and frame details that may interrupt movement.
Use only surfaces allowed by the exact manual. Do not assume that every window, mirror, glass door, or frameless pane is suitable.
Fit the correct cleaning pads
Confirm pad compatibility with the exact model. Attach each pad flat in the designated area without folds, loose edges, or fabric covering functional parts.
For W5600X, the manual warns users not to block its two driving treads or four spherical sensors. Those counts belong to W5600X and should not be copied to another model.
The replacement-pad compatibility guide explains how to compare shape, openings, attachment, and clearance.
Prepare water tanks only as instructed
If the model uses water tanks, identify the correct reservoirs, permitted liquid, fill method, and plug position. Do not overfill or add an unapproved cleaner.
W5600X has 100 ml total across two tanks, but this does not establish a fixed cleaning duration or number of windows. Keep spills away from controls, connectors, sensors, and the base.
Plan stable plug-in power
Confirm the correct adapter and cable for the exact model. Seat each connector as instructed and route the cable away from sharp edges, handles, water, heat, and pinch points.
W5600X uses plug-in power during normal cleaning. Its UPS power-off protection temporarily helps after an unexpected interruption so the user can respond. It is not normal cordless runtime. Read the UPS power-off protection guide before treating backup protection as part of normal operation.
Attach the safety rope and verify the anchor
For elevated or hazardous use, attach the supplied rope as the manual shows and secure it to a fixed, immovable indoor anchor. Check the rope, hardware, attachment, and anchor before placing the robot.
The W5600X safety rope is 4.5 m / approximately 14.8 ft. It does not replace suitable glass, stable power, correct placement, supervision, or safe retrieval.
The guide on why the safety rope still matters explains its separate role.
Learn the controls away from hazardous glass
Identify the power control, status indicators, remote commands, app functions, spray control, route selection, stop command, and removal procedure from the manual.
Do not guess an app-pairing sequence or reset procedure. W5600X supports app and remote control, but availability and functions may vary by market and version.
Choose a starting point and retrieval plan
Select a starting position allowed by the manual. Make sure you can hold, place, and retrieve the robot from a stable position without leaning into danger.
Route the cable and rope so neither pulls the machine sideways or catches on a handle, latch, frame corner, or nearby object. Keep the area below and around the window clear.
Perform one supervised first run
Stay present for the entire first cycle. Watch the initial contact, movement, route changes, spray behavior, cable and rope path, edge response, and retrieval.
Stop if the robot cannot establish stable contact, a pad shifts, a connector loosens, the cable or rope catches, water reaches an electrical area, or movement conflicts with the manual. Do not bypass sensors or force the robot past an obstacle.
First-use checklist
| Check | Confirm before placement | Stop when |
|---|---|---|
| Model | Robot, package, manual, and product page match | Model identity conflicts |
| Contents | Required parts for the sales version are present | A listed part is missing or damaged |
| Robot | Housing, sensors, treads, and controls look intact | Damage, contamination, or moisture appears |
| Glass | Surface and dimensions meet the manual | Cracks, unsuitable texture, coating, grease, or obstacles remain |
| Pads | Correct pads sit flat and clear functional areas | Fit, attachment, or clearance is uncertain |
| Tanks | Correct liquid, fill, and plugs follow the manual | Leakage, overfill, or an unapproved liquid appears |
| Power | Correct adapter, secure connectors, and clear routing | Cable or connector damage appears |
| Safety rope | Rope, hardware, and fixed indoor anchor are secure | Damage or anchor movement appears |
| Controls | User knows start, stop, spray, route, and removal | A command or indicator is unclear |
| Retrieval | Robot can be recovered from a stable position | Retrieval requires unsafe reaching |
Questions new owners ask
Should I test the robot on the easiest window first?
Choose suitable glass and a placement that allows stable handling and retrieval. The exact manual determines whether the surface and starting position are appropriate.
Can I use the robot before reading the full manual?
No. First use requires the model-specific safety, power, glass, pad, control, and removal instructions.
Does backup power mean I can test it unplugged?
No. Normal cleaning uses plug-in power. Backup protection is temporary help after an unexpected interruption.
What if a supplied part does not match the manual?
Do not improvise. Photograph the model label and part, then contact the seller or manufacturer before use.
Build a repeatable routine
The first setup should leave you able to identify the model, components, controls, limits, power route, tether point, starting position, and retrieval method. Future cycles still need inspection, but you should not have to rediscover the product each time.
